Biased Media

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Think the Main Stream Media isn’t biased? Think again. From the AP:

Activists of human rights organization Amnesty International dressed up as Guantanamo detainees protest against the United States’ foreign policy in downtown Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday, June 22, 2006 during the visit of U.S. President George W. Bush.

What they neglect to mention is that only 7 people showed up.

Education - Median Income Study

Friday, June 16th, 2006

This article details the relationship between higher education rates and median income in the general population, by state. There are two studies, one based upon the Census Bureau and another by Morgan Quinto Press known for state by state comparisons.

Once again Hawaii is in the bottom ten when both median income and education are factored in.

And from the Morgan Quinto list alone, it’s clear that Alaska, California, and Hawaii have some education-expenditure prioritizing to do.

What’s Wrong with the System?

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Here is a perfect example. Neal Boortz notes:

The nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity released a study yesterday and it showed that over a 5+ year period between 2000 and 2005, members of Congress (both Republicans and Democrats) accepted $50 million in travel from corporations and special interest groups.

What caught my eye was the picture of Diamondhead leading the story and then this tidbit:

  • $500 a night hotel rooms….not exactly Motel 6.
  • $25,000 corporate jet rides (yep..it costs that much.  Trust me.)
  • 200 trips to Paris, 150 to Hawaii and 140 to Italy.

Our state is benefiting from corporate rent-seeking, how nice.

Congressional Record Revisionism

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

John Stossel reveals the truth about the Congressional Record.

But the Record isn’t a record of what was said in Congress — the politicians wouldn’t subject themselves to that. The Record is a record of what the members want you to think they said.

Just another example of how our elected officials hold themselves to a separate standard than the rest of us.
